Chromebook Frequently Asked Questions
**Battery needs to be charged every night. The battery normally lasts 5-8 hours depending on the model.
To login to Wireless Internet on Your Chromebook:
Your School-Issued HotSpot will contain the name ‘Franklin T9 ####”.
Your password to your School-Issued HotSpot will be written in the top cover of the box you received.
How can I keep the device clean/disinfected?
Prior to receiving the Chromebook, every device was disinfected using school-approved disinfectant. To keep your Chromebook clean, you can use any disinfectant wipe that you already have at home.
The only thing that should be on the Chromebook is the sticker on the bottom with the serial number. Please do not put stickers on them, write on them, or deface them in any other manner.
Is the Chromebook web filtered/monitored?
Yes, even though you are taking the Chromebook home and on your own network, the district uses a web-filter that is loaded onto the Chromebook. The web browser activity is monitored and any inappropriate behavior is reported to administration and will result in disciplinary action. At home, the students are expected to follow all the same rules as if they were at school regarding physical and virtual technologies provided to the students by the district.
Can I print at home from a student Chromebook?
Answer: Unfortunately, we do not support printing from home with Chromebooks. This would simply be too much for our Tech Department to manage, as there are thousands of different options for printers and software applications available for families. We would not be able to monitor, approve and support all that would be required.
If printing at home is an absolute must, our recommendation is to login to your PGCP Google Drive/Google Classroom from a family device that is already connected to your printer. Student email can also be used to transfer files to a device that is already capable of printing.
All electronic lessons/homework posted should be available for electronic submission.
Chromebook freezes or does not turn on, what can I do?
Answer: The first thing to try is a forced restart (see last portion of this page). If a forced restart does not resolve the issue please let your teacher know.
Issues with an assignment, who can I contact?
Answer: Students should contact their teachers with any issues regarding assignments.
No Internet at home, how can my student work?
Answer: Please contact your child’s school for a hot spot. Also, some things can be done right on the Chromebook without internet:
If you know you'll be offline but you want to work on Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, you can make Google Drive files available offline.
Step 1: Make Google Drive available offline (do this while connected to internet)
In the "Offline" area, check the box. It might take a few minutes for the offline access setting to turn on.
Your Chromebook saves your most recently opened documents so you can work on them offline.
Step 2: Work on a file offline
When your Chromebook isn’t connected to the Internet:
In the corner of your screen, click the Launcher and then Up arrow .
Click Google Drive.
Find the file you’d like to work on, and double-click it to open.
Work on your file. Any changes will sync to Google Drive the next time your Chromebook connects to the Internet.
Stop seeing files offline
To free up hard drive space, you can delete the offline versions of your files:
Go to drive.google.com/drive/settings.
In the "Offline" area, uncheck the box.
You’ll still see your files in Google Drive when you’re connected to the Internet.

Keyboard or touchpad stops working, what can I do?
Answer: If you find you cannot type, we suggest performing the forced restart described in the last section of this page. If this does not resolve the issue, please let your teacher know.
Charger/Power Adapter is missing or broken, what can I do?
Answer: Please let your teacher know. A fine of $25 may be issued for a lost/missing charger, but as long as we receive one back before the end of the year, no fine will be applied. We want to ensure your student can learn and do their work, so please do not hesitate to contact us for a charger.
None of the above suggestions above work, what do I do now?
Answer: Let your teacher know, they will send you to the appropriate technician to repair the Chromebook.
Forced Reset Instructions
To perform a forced restart, plug the Chromebook into its power supply. Press the "Power" and "Refresh" buttons simultaneously for approximately one second. This should cause the Chromebook to reboot and hopefully resolve your issue.
PGCP supports the implementation of digital curriculum and systems for learning by ensuring teachers, students, staff and administrators have persistent access to a computing device sufficient to access and leverage these resources. The device for students in grades PreK-12 is a Chromebook.
Carefully transport your Chromebook when traveling between classes or between home and school. Avoid placing weight on it, and never throw or slide it. Be careful not to expose it to long-term temperature extremes, which means an automobile is never a good place to store it. You can disinfect it using any household disinfecting type of wipe, just make sure it's not too wet.
Transporting the Chromebook
When not in use, closing the Chromebook lid will save battery life and protect the screen. The Chromebook must be transported with care at all times in the school-provided case.
Defacing the Chromebook by writing on it, placing stickers on it, removing stickers put on by the district, purposefully breaking it, and any other destructive behavior will result in disciplinary action.
